Operation Agent Ink Agent Pitch Opportunity

If you are here to visit the CELEBRATING THE SMALL THINGS BLOG HOP, please click here.

You guys! You beautiful guys and dolls! Operation Agent Ink Pitch Opportunity has finally arrived! It's here! And I am so excited about today and tomorrow!

The workshop has been going since November, with sign-ups beginning in in October. We've had so much fun, haven't we?

I had over 100 authors and writers sign up for the workshop. Can you believe that? I was surprised, but in a very happy surprise!

Now, I'm not exactly for sure WHY, but many participants (many, many) chose not to send in their entry for the pitch opportunity. And so, there are only a few entries for our agents to choose from. But, these entries are really great and I hope the agents find a manuscript they have been searching for and hoping to find for months!

I received one entry that contained only the query letter. I have emailed her and asked her to send me the first page. When she sends it to me, I will post. So if you see a new entry, don't be alarmed. She sent hers plenty in time for the contest. I just need her first page!

I have turned all comments off allowing only the agents to comment. After the pitch opportunity is over, I'll publish the comments for public viewing ONLY IF THE AUTHORS LET ME KNOW THEY WANT THE PUBLIC TO SEE THEIR COMMENTS. So, authors, please email me and let me know what you want me to do. If you do not send me an email telling me to publish the comments, I will not do so.

I will, however, post a blog post with the results of the entries, how many requests were made, and so forth.

One last thing: *I* was asked by a couple of the agents to post my manuscript for their viewing. I have agreed to do so at their request. Wouldn't you if an agent asked you do this? I mean, it would only be the right thing to do, right?

Mine is the last entry...entry #14

  2. Okay, okay, must remember to breathe -then- freak, breathe then ... feel vastly inferior ... yeah, that's a normal state to be at the beginning of a pitching opportunity, right? >_>

I hope this goes well for everyone.

    1. You and me both, Aldrea:) Best wishes today and tomorrow. I hope you are published soon so I can read this story you've teased me with bits and pieces with forever:)

    2. I didn't say you can show comments on my entry, did I? Cause you totally can ... if there are any.

I'm double-nervous now as a full from a different MS has been with a small publisher for 12 days now. So nervous ... >_<

    3. Is it over? *peeks* What time are we going by?
Honestly, the results are about what I expected. Really want to respond ... must refrain sarcastic urges ...

But hey, a 50% request is all good. Congrats to those who got 'em. ^_^ Double for those who've gotten more than one.

    4. There are still a couple of Agents who haven't visited yet and may still do so. *crosses fingers*

  3. You are welcome to share comments I receive. :) I am currently going through my MS again with more betas looking for ways to improve because that's how I roll. Good enough is never good enough. SB could be published and I'd still be finding ways to improve because I am a perfectionist. This is why I am drafting the other two books in the trilogy, so that they fit together seamlessly, even though SB can stand alone.

    When will we know details?

And you, Talynn, remember to breathe. :)

    3. Well, I hope you get a request this weekend, then you can go in July and enjoy all the awesome workshops and classes and fun!

    4. Thank you. It might not be that easy. Ha! What's easy about this stuff? :) I believe an agent-writer relationship needs to be a good fit in both directions. An agent may want to rep me, but I need to feel that the agent is a good fit for me in return. Chemistry, I guess you can say. It would be hard turning down an agent when it's tempting to take whoever comes along first, but I will if the fit's nit right. I hope agents will appreciate my desire to make sure the fit is a good one for both to help things be as smooth as possible for us both.

  10. Talynn,

You did a great job putting this together! Thanks for all your hard work!

I'm one of the ones who signed up to pitch, but didn't submit a pitch so I apologize if that messes with your numbers at all. But, I can't submit because it just recently found a home :)

Operation Agent Ink

UPDATE: PLEASE FILL OUT THIS QUESTIONNAIRE AFTER YOU SIGN UP. Have you ever wondered what agents were dying to find in their inbox/slush pile? There have been many times I entered a contest and not even received a comment, not even from one of the agents. Or maybe the agent was kind enough to leave a comment that simply said, "Sorry, this just isn't what I'm looking for, but I love the premise and your voice." I always walk away feeling unsatisfied. If I had known exactly what the agent wanted beyond, "YA" or "Fantasy" I might not have even entered a contest I knew I wouldn't win! Even more, I wasted a very busy agents time! Well, your time of guessing is up! OPERATION AGENT INK to the rescue! That's right! This workshop will help aspiring authors get on the list of an agent's WISH LIST! When the workshop is over, your manuscript will be ready to view by a group of AMAZING agents who are dying to see what you've wri...

Writer In Motion CP feedback

Hey beautiful guys and dolls! Here it is! My CP feedback edited story. Had a hard time with this, but I hope it makes sense. I've got a post I'm working on I plan to put up after Thanksgiving. Here ya go. Enjoy... Every morning I wake to carnival day.  Today, though, I have my key. If I don’t use it before midnight, my way of escape will gone. It’s a silver key with a twisted metal handle, a sapphire stone half moon and engraved stars. There’s a tiny inscription on the moon, but it’s so small, I’ve never been able to read it.I’ve always kept mine in my jewelry box, but today, I string it on a ribbon and tie it around my neck. My two best friends will be wearing theirs, too, and I wonder how they will escape this carnival of dreams. “What’s it for?” Cress asks as we stand in line for the swings. I run my fingertips over the entire silver surface. “I don’t know. It belonged to my grandmother,” I say. “Whatever.” She shrugs her shoulder in a dismissive way. “Have ...

Workshop 10

Today, let's get readers hooked from the very first sentence. If you do, you are off to a great start and hopefully a great first chapter. We are going to focus on the first and second sentence and how you can draw readers in while introducing two major items about your book: 1. Your MC 2. The main conflict. How? Is it really possible to do this in only TWO sentences? YES! Example: My name is Snow, like the white powder that falls during winter, though I don't know what my mom was thinking because it was ninety degrees the day I was born. I turned twelve the year I married a man I hated and thirteen when my first baby was born. This sentence tells us a lot. It shows us a little about Snow's personality, it hints toward a shortened childhood and could possibly point to a different time era. I also can definitely see the conflict. Can you? You only have a few minutes to make a good, first impression. Make sure you wow your reader enough they'll actually t...
