For the Weekend

As you head into the weekend, here's something for you to think about. As a writer, many times it's hard to focus on anything but my manuscripts. Or the writing industry in general. Sometimes it's nice to get away from anything writing and rest. Just think about other things.

Really, I don't do that very often. Sure, my mind can focus n other "things" when needed, like homework help with the children or conversations with family and friends. I'm not talking about those times. I'm talking about when my mind is free to think about whatever I want. Always, well almost always, my mind loves to dream about my characters.

What about you? Do you find you can't stop thinking about your writing? If so, how to you drag yourself away?

Enjoy your break this weekend!

  1. I didn't think much about it when I was on vacation last weekend. Maybe a little.

  2. I so plan on doing this tomorrow. I'm going to the beach and I want to not think about writing, blogging, critiquing or anything else all day. ;0)

  3. I'm not sure, I don't think I do anything intentionally to not think about writing....

    1. Sometimes, it's just in our head. But if you can escape every now and then, you deserve a break:) Enjoy your rest time when it happens:)

  5. I was technically on vacation all this past week. I only really took one full day off to spend out with my family. What did we do for fun? Went to visit sites in DC I used my my novel so I could take pictures and confirm I got all the details right.

Well, we also had a great lunch, visited a ton of museums, walked the entire National Mall, and got caught in a rain storm. No everything was about writing, but some of it was. :)

    1. I have never been to DC! I think it would be fascinating to go and get caught in a rainstorm. Fun!

  6. Another new bloggy look!

I can never seem to put my story out of my head, I've given up trying.

    1. Who knows? Visit tomorrow and it may be different yet again! I'm kinda like that! Or, my blog is any way. I think my muse sneaks into my blog design and changes my template whenever she feels like it:)

  7. I'm setting aside October to do no thinking about writing at all. Right now that seems impossible because writing is all I do think about. I know it's going to be quite a change of pace, but since I'm going to be traveling and doing some hiking, that will direct my attention away from this passion of mine.

    Great suggestion!

    1. Just be careful. Traveling and walking in nature seems to keep my mind occupied with plot and character. hehe

      Enjoy your time away!

  8. Thinking about writing is sanity for me. It makes me happy. :O) I do turn it off so I can give my whole attention to my family, but overall it really is about all I think of.

  9. For me, switching off isn't the problem, it's switching back on I find difficult.

When my brain can't take any more, I walk away and read, watch a DVD, go shopping for food etc. Getting back into it is hard.

    1. Well. Sometimes, when I'm at a stand still in my story, I have a hard time getting back in hbe groove. But when inspiration strikes, I can't stop thinking about it!

  10. I think about my writing most of the day. In terms of how I pull myself away, I stop when my daily obligations demand it, but look forward to getting a good hour of writing in after everyone in my household is asleep. :-) Luckily, I've always been more of a night owl, so that schedule works for me.

    Be well, my friend,

Writer In Motion CP feedback

Hey beautiful guys and dolls! Here it is! My CP feedback edited story. Had a hard time with this, but I hope it makes sense. I've got a post I'm working on I plan to put up after Thanksgiving. Here ya go. Enjoy... Every morning I wake to carnival day.  Today, though, I have my key. If I don’t use it before midnight, my way of escape will gone. It’s a silver key with a twisted metal handle, a sapphire stone half moon and engraved stars. There’s a tiny inscription on the moon, but it’s so small, I’ve never been able to read it.I’ve always kept mine in my jewelry box, but today, I string it on a ribbon and tie it around my neck. My two best friends will be wearing theirs, too, and I wonder how they will escape this carnival of dreams. “What’s it for?” Cress asks as we stand in line for the swings. I run my fingertips over the entire silver surface. “I don’t know. It belonged to my grandmother,” I say. “Whatever.” She shrugs her shoulder in a dismissive way. “Have

Insecure Writers Group

Today, my feelings are mixed. On one hand, I've faced more rejection and that's not easy to write about or admit to the world. But I am not crying in my "milk" (no beer, folks:) I want to, but what good would it do??? I received a detailed critique from a "Best First Line" contest. The critique was the best I have ever received and seriously opened my eyes to "how" to improve my writing. Nice! Speaking of critiques, I am still looking for a critique partner. If anyone is looking back, please let me know and we can swap info. I'm sending off a YA query letter and first pages to 3 agents this week. Wish me luck. This will be the first time I have directly contacted and agent with a query. Yes, I'm nervous, so I'm saying again, WISH ME LUCK!!!

Operation Agent Ink

UPDATE: PLEASE FILL OUT THIS QUESTIONNAIRE AFTER YOU SIGN UP. Have you ever wondered what agents were dying to find in their inbox/slush pile? There have been many times I entered a contest and not even received a comment, not even from one of the agents. Or maybe the agent was kind enough to leave a comment that simply said, "Sorry, this just isn't what I'm looking for, but I love the premise and your voice." I always walk away feeling unsatisfied. If I had known exactly what the agent wanted beyond, "YA" or "Fantasy" I might not have even entered a contest I knew I wouldn't win! Even more, I wasted a very busy agents time! Well, your time of guessing is up! OPERATION AGENT INK to the rescue! That's right! This workshop will help aspiring authors get on the list of an agent's WISH LIST! When the workshop is over, your manuscript will be ready to view by a group of AMAZING agents who are dying to see what you've wri
