The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good: I got my MacBook back from the shop and it worked perfectly. Well, I mean everything I sent it away with came back just as it was when I sent it away. They *said* the optical drive worked, but alas, I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Why, you ask?

The Bad: My son walked in the door and apparently slammed the door a little too hard. (Remember, we are living in a camper. Out door latch as a mild crimp, meaning you HAVE to slam it or it will not close.) My coffee cup was siting on the table and it literally jumped off the table and into my lap. I kid you not. It really did jump. Honest. The really bad? My MacBook was sitting happily on my lap.

The Ugly: Coffee spilled on a laptop equals broken laptop.

The REALLY UGLY: I'm not for sure what will happen this time for repairs. I'm sure something is really broken because my computer will not turn on at all.

Needless to say, my posting this week will be like last week. Minimal. I am really disheartened at the moment. I don't feel like writing or blogging or doing anything. Sure, it's just a computer, right? With years of research, hundreds of dollars of software and programs, pictures, graphics, passwords to all my online places, and

    O_O Eep! I hope, if they can't get it working again, you're at least able to recover all your stuff.

    I'm so sorry! That's terrible. Some techy guy should be able to retrieve all your files from your hard drive.. never fear.

    Agreed... this is awful news... and I hope the Geniuses at the Apple store (or wherever you go) will be able to get you fully restored!

Workshop 10

Today, let's get readers hooked from the very first sentence. If you do, you are off to a great start and hopefully a great first chapter. We are going to focus on the first and second sentence and how you can draw readers in while introducing two major items about your book: 1. Your MC 2. The main conflict. How? Is it really possible to do this in only TWO sentences? YES! Example: My name is Snow, like the white powder that falls during winter, though I don't know what my mom was thinking because it was ninety degrees the day I was born. I turned twelve the year I married a man I hated and thirteen when my first baby was born. This sentence tells us a lot. EVER Blog Hop!!!!!

I joined a blog hop flash writing contest with/for Jessa Russo. It's in honor of her first EVER book release. I met Jessa during the Curiosity Quills Blog hop. I have never read a ghost story, but after reading Jessa's query and first few pages and then learning more about her ghost Frankie, I was so inspired, I fell in love -with Frankie. I was so inspired, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and write a story I had never written before and never thought I would write. Or even want to write. But I did, and I did. My piece for the contest is a small part of my bigger manuscript I wrote. I had to modify and change a few things so the story would make sense, but I think it works.
