When life gives you lemons...

Do you make lemonade?

Summer is over and it's time to bring out hot chocolate and light up the bon fires!

Why, then, am I talking about lemonade???

Change is all around me. Not just changing of the seasons, which, by the way, I love. But change on every side. Sometimes change can cause disappointment or discouragement, and that's okay, as long as you grab yourself by the boot straps and get back in the race.

I had to take a break from my writing. Rejection is hard to deal with, and although it's [art of every writer's life, it can be discouraging. The best way for me to deal with that was simply taking a break. I had to, no needed to, get away from everything. I was at the point I didn't want to write, didn't want to blog, didn't want to visit my friend's blogs, didn't want to deal with anything associated with writing. I even ran and hid from my Twitter feed.

I tried to give up on my dream of becoming a published author.
No more rejection.
No more disappointments.
No more writing.

But, my dear, sweet, wonderful friends, I love lemonade! So I found all those lemons I had stuffed away in the closet, pulled them out, and made some sweet, homemade, fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Too bad it's hot chocolate season...

But I have a plan *smiles deviously*

No, it's not lemon flavored hot chocolate!

I froze the lemonade to save for a rainy day in spring:)

Even though life shook me up and scattered me on the ground, I've found all the crazy pieces and I'm back in the groove. Yes, I feel like I'm starting all over, from the very beginning, just like a "newbie" but I really don't care.

Because I feel rejuvenated and excited.

Just like in kindergarten.
Just like writing should feel.

  1. So that old thing about life giving you lemons and making lemonade is true then? I generally go for the tequila, but your experience sounds much better. ;-)
Good to hear you're finding your groove again. :-)

Operation Agent Ink

UPDATE: PLEASE FILL OUT THIS QUESTIONNAIRE AFTER YOU SIGN UP. Have you ever wondered what agents were dying to find in their inbox/slush pile? There have been many times I entered a contest and not even received a comment, not even from one of the agents. Or maybe the agent was kind enough to leave a comment that simply said, "Sorry, this just isn't what I'm looking for, but I love the premise and your voice." I always walk away feeling unsatisfied. If I had known exactly what the agent wanted beyond, "YA" or "Fantasy" I might not have even entered a contest I knew I wouldn't win! Even more, I wasted a very busy agents time! Well, your time of guessing is up! OPERATION AGENT INK to the rescue! That's right! This workshop will help aspiring authors get on the list of an agent's WISH LIST! When the workshop is over, your manuscript will be ready to view by a group of AMAZING agents who are dying to see what you've wri...

The Writers Voice Entry

How excited am I? Can't you hear me laughing and squeeing, right there where you are? Yep! I'm excited! I made it tot he first round of the Writers Voice!! So today, I've posted my entry, here int his blog post, for the coaches to come around and read and decide if I'm ready to move on to the next round. Keep your fingers crossed for me PLEASE:) The entry I'm posting as went through numerous rounds of edits and revisions to get it where it is already. I've cut, squeezed, rearranged and replaced so much, I think my brain is on fire! I've changed names, combined characters, cut characters, and I've changed titles a couple of times and agonized over my genre until I cried . I've put th e first three chapters through a couple of workshops and had feedback from a few agents, so I'm sure I 've got the results I wanted. (I can be honest, can't I?) So, here we go, you beautiful guys and dolls. Feel free to leave any comments that might ...

GUTGAA Meet and Greet!

Hey everyone! I'm taking a quick break from vacation to introduce myself and say hi! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and meeting some new friends! -Where do you write? I live in a camper. My writing spot? Usually in bed. But sometimes I get a chance to write in the "living room" but that's rare. When I am at home (yay!) I have my own little office:) I love m space there and I can write during the day light hours. Oh, who am I kidding! That's rare. -Quick. Go to your writing space, sit down and look to your left. What is the first thing you see? My husband. Yeah, he sleeps with me! -Favorite time to write? At night. When it's quite. Aaahhh. Sweet quite. -Drink of choice while writing? Depends on the time of day I get to write. In the morning, coffee, coffee and more coffee. (with Creme Brulee creamer!) Afternoon it's iced coffee. After school, it's Dr. Pepper. Night it's water. -When writin...
